Don’t let the name fool you! This place is a stunning, pristine waterway on the Cudgegong River, set amongst amazing rock pagodas, sandstone escarpments and native bushland.Just over an hour’s drive from Lazy Frog Lodge, through the picturesque town of Rylstone (see Yum Cha and de Beaurepaires Wines below) and the Capertee Valley. Book a kayak tour online or just visit for a swim and walk the Pagoda Walking Track without a booking. BYO drinking water. Pit toilets, wood fired BBQs and tables.

Well worth the 40-minute drive from Lazy Frog Lodge, this is a beautiful bush walk through a gorge alongside the Goulburn River. Allow 60-90 min for the 2.8km return walk. Great on a warm day after rainfall when you can swim/wade in the rock pools at the end. It's in a National Park, so no dogs permitted.
Go in the morning and stop for lunch at The Barn on your way back.
Visit Rylstone for Yum Cha at 29 nine 99 and wine tasting at de Beaurepaires Winery
Indulge in Yum Cha at the iconic 29 nine 99 Yum Cha and Tea House and team it up a visit to de Beaurepaires Winery to taste French-style wines. Ensure you book for both places first and best to have cash to pay for Yum Cha.
A 20 minute drive along the Castlereagh Hwy are the cobblestone streets of Gulgong, lined with heritage buildings. Visit the Gulgong Pioneers Museum for its extensive collection of memorabilia and historical artefacts, including three relocated historical houses, machinery, vehicles and a Cobb & Co coach.
A picturesque 1 hour drive along Hill End Rd to see the remains of the Gold Rush town and the History Hill Museum and Underground Mine. For a shorter flat walk, stroll along the banks of the Cudgegong River on the Lawson Park Sculpture Walk in Mudgee town and enjoy the sculptures dotted along the path, starting at the intersection of Church and Short St and finishing at either The Mudgee Arts Precinct or cross over the bridge and head to Glen Willow Stadium.
f you’re lucky enough to be here in October, it’s well worth a visit to Sculptures in the Garden at Rosby Estate to enjoy a glass of wine while wandering through the hundreds of sculptures on exhibition annually for 2 weeks in October. See the website for more info and opening dates.
Or for some bird spotting, wander along the 2km track through the Putta Bucca Wetlands which are a 5 min drive away on Putta Bucca Rd.
